Weekends

It's Saturday and the only day when the boys get to play with their own toys. Andrew's current project is this 'Chopper'. It's got a 260 rear tyre sitting in the soft tail and a right-sided six speed gear box.

Dave hard at work on his Harley, the tank and rear tyre guard have been subjected to some pretty serious chemical treatment to give the ageless look of rusty old parts. . .magnificent!

Believe it or not, but this old pick-up is heading to the black-top drag style. Yep she's going up against the clock and anyone else who's silly enough to sit beside her.

Car's back from the sandblaster,

Engine bay is fantastic and no problems with any rust.

Windscreen area is not too bad considering age of car and all Holdens collect rust here.

Floor pans are rooted. It's Freddie Flinstone in here folks, but that doesn't matter because car is receiving total new floor pan and raised tunnel.

The Delivery. . . a motor is born.

The wreck didn't want to give up its heart and sole easily taking two magicians a full day and loads of rude words to extract the motor, auto trans and vital looms and sensors. . .
This motor, although short being a V6 is wide, did I say wide, it is bloody nearly two axe handles across. The old EH is gonna know it's got something new in its belly with this thing straddling its rails.

The automatic transmission is sooo huge that a complete rethink has now resulted in a totally new floor-pan layout and huge centre tunnel to accomodate the auto. Strangely GMH has reverted to a solid linkage set-up for changing gears with this new auto, the old electronics are gone. . .

The Donor Vehicle

A not-so-brand-new Commodore VE Berlina has kindly donated its motor, gear box and computers to the Project Vehicle.
Full credit to GMH design crew, no-one was killed or seriously injured in this horrific wreck.

Near new SV6 with only 4000km's on the clock.
Rear view shows good solid foundation with little to no rust around the tail lights or tail gate.
Rear bumper, BTW, is in the back of the wagon.
The car stated life as a 179ci six cylinder, but at some stage has been replaced with a 186ci that is running a rare 186S inlet manifold with a Holley 350 carburettor.

Original factory I.D. plate with EH build dates.

The Beginning

This is the subject of this blog, Corey's EH station wagon that he recently purchased. This car is going to be put through a thorough rebuild from the ground up and when finished will combine modern engineering with the lovely old style looks of a great family car in its day. As can be seen from the pics the car is in reasonable condition but far from being able to be registered and driven safely on the road. . .
